The ‘Jablonec 2008’ International Triennial, the Czech Republic
20 June – 27 September 2008

Welcome to the ‘Jablonec 2008’ International Triennial’s website. Organized by the Museum of Glass and Fashion Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, together with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the city of Jablonec nad Nisou and the Jablonec Eurocentre, the event will take place from June to September 2008. The triennial loosely continues both the International Exhibitions of Glass and Fashion Jewellery held at the Jablonec exhibition grounds in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and the ‘Clothes and Accessories’ exhibition staged by the museum in its exhibition halls in 1998, 2000 and 2005.

Judging by the outcome of the ‘Clothes and Accessories’ exhibitions organized up to now, the museum has ascertained that not only professional fashion and fashion jewellery designers, whether those of the present or future, but also the entire Liberec region including the city of Jablonec show intense interest in participating in such events. The region’s representatives have recognized the possibilities for enhancing the region‘s attractiveness, for encouraging art school students’ involvement in designing, as well as for utilizing the textile industry’s research and development and for establishing the tradition of modern design. The response from a number of exhibition visitors has convinced the museum experts of the necessity to extend the international framework of the exhibition project. At present, in making the necessary preparations, the museum acknowledges the considerable attention that the media, manufacturing companies, both home and foreign designers and the public in general have devoted to the project.

The aim of the project is:

  • To establish glass and fashion jewellery production as the Czech Republic’s national tradition.
  • To establish the tradition of Czech design and fashion.
  • To link the fashion jewellery, glassmaking and textile industries together with textile research and development.
  • To link professional fashion and fashion jewellery designers together with students in order to create clothing that features fashion jewellery as an integral part.
  • To involve the students of art and craft schools in fashion design.
  • To present the Czech Republic’s cultural heritage.
